Inside the Tanner Goods Workshop

Filmed over two days, we’ve cut together a handful of time-lapse shots featuring our crew working a typical 8 hour workday at our Leftbank Workshop. For those who haven’t visited our space before, our production is broken into 4 categories and varies in size depending on how many styles fall within that category [as well as how many units we need to produce each season]. This is a quick glimpse into what a typical day looks like for us. —Sam Huff READ MORE

The 3sixteen Interview

It just so happens that Andrew Chen, one of the founders of 3sixteen, got started right here in Chicago. After graduating from University of Chicago with a degree in economics and public policy, he fell into a well-paying job in IT Consulting. But, as luck would have it for all fans of 3sixteen denim, a career in IT didn’t quite do it for Andrew. Almost ten years later, 3sixteen has gone from side project to full collection to dedicated denim brand. Today, they’re still a two-man operation, run by Andrew and his business partner, Johan Lam. We’re furthering our Anglophilic tendencies this season with the latest arrival at Haberdash: the Gloverall Duffle. Popularized by Gloverall in the 50s and 60s, this dense wool duffle coat is quintessentially British in style and construction, manufactured in England for over seven decades. Baxter of California Deodorant

You might recall our last post about Baxter of California, an interview with Sales Director Michael Donovan. Michael had hinted at a new product coming out shortly, much anticipated and something brand new for Baxter. “[It's] something major that we’ve been working on for about two years,” said Michael. “It’s a component of our brand that customers have been asking for for many years and we’re finally satisfied with what we’ve put together, and it’s a very meaningful product.” READ MORE

Baldwin’s Henley in California Wash

Fact: You’re going to need a pair of jeans with a light wash for summer. Nothing looks better with tan feet, and those raw denims won’t breathe well when the mercury rises. When it comes to washed jeans, you’re either buying vintage, or a new pair that looks like this. Let me save you the trouble: vintage is smelly. Meet my favorite pair of light jeans in the world, the Baldwin Henley in their California wash. READ MORE

Introducing Apolis + Haberdash

“We grew up in Santa Barbara, California. Our parents knew we would never know how good we have it, so from an early age we traveled quite a bit,” says Shea Parton, the Brand Director and CEO at Apolis, the company he started with his brother in 2004. As young travelers, the two brothers had expected to find a whole globe of differences. In the end, it wasn’t the differences that drew them in, but the similarities they encountered. “All the people we came across had the same desire to laugh and learn and provide for their families.” READ MORE

Universal Works F/W 2012

“Under-design is my favorite thing — good design is important, but not over-design,” says David Keyte, of Universal Works. At the recent Jacket Required show, HBTV had a chance to catch up with the designer, owner, and founder of the British workwear-inspired label. Discussing about the label’s influences and the future of what the brand has in store for Fall/Winter 2012, Keyte previews the line that boasts clean tailoring and naturally rugged fabrics with timeless styles that Keyte thinks men “just want to wear.”
