Ah, glorious fall. A time for heavy tweeds, hearty wool knits, sturdy leather boots, and mustaches. Yes, November—or, ahem, Movember—is the time to grow out your very best ‘stache. What is Movember? We’re glad you asked. It’s a global movement that sheds light on men’s health issues while helping to support world-class men’s health programs that combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges. Long story short, you grow a mustache—but you do it for a really, really good reason, and your family/friends cheer on your whiskers all month long. In 2012 alone, over 1.1 million people participated, raising some $147 million.

So, now that our Blind Barber pop-up barbershop is officially open at Haberdash in the Roosevelt Collection (and they just so happen to be an Official Mo Rated Barbershop), we decided it was time to really get involved. Which is why we’re very pleased to announce that we will be hosting a Shave the Date party, November 1st—the official beginning of Movember and the designated day to start with a clean-shaven face. And so, we’re treating you all to a complimentary close shave—our way of kicking off this month of men’s health. See below for the official Movember rules and details on how you could win a year’s supply of grooming products from Blind Barber. READ MORE

Now that we have officially unveiled our new flagship store, we thought it was a good time to give you a little photo tour—for those of you who haven’t gotten the chance to stop by. That being said, we highly encourage you to do so—stop in for a quick haircut or a close shave in our barbershop by Blind Barber, grab a cup of La Colombe coffee, and peruse our new arrivals. After so many months of planning and construction—years in the making, really—our vision has finally come to fruition. “The ultimate haberdashery menswear experience in the South Loop,” in the words of Jerry Kamhi in his interview with WWD, “This is the first time we’re going to be able to put everything under one roof.” Add to that free parking, the burgeoning Roosevelt Collection, and the vibrance of the South Loop (check out our video on the history of the South Loop), and you can see why we’re so excited to show you the store. Stop by soon! READ MORE

Our Kind of Town: Chicago’s South Loop

To celebrate the grand opening of our new flagship store in the South Loop, we decided to pay homage to the men and women who built this amazing neighborhood. As the home to much of Chicago’s history, it’s a neighborhood we’re incredibly proud to join. And so, we teamed up with the Chicago History Museum to create a short film on the subject. Take a look back at the Burnham Plan, the Great Migration, the Chicago Black Renaissance, Maxwell Street Market, a Century of Progress, and more in this tribute to the South Loop of Chicago. Special thanks to the Chicago History Museum. READ MORE

Haberdash at Zoo-ologie 2013

I have to admit, it’s kind of strange to eat steak twenty feet away from a leopard, even if it is caged. Then again, I don’t often find myself at the Lincoln Park Zoo after the sun goes down. Last Saturday night was different. The annual Zoo-ologie gala transforms the zoo into one of the year’s best parties, using proceeds and donations to keep the zoo maintained and open to the public (free of charge!) 365 days a year. By 9:00 p.m., the event was packed with a stylish crowd sampling fare from some of the cities best restaurants, sipping exotic cocktails. I found the pulled pork sandwich from Hash House a Go Go to be the best bite of the night, and the Milagro tequila cocktail with chartreuese was delicious enough to warrant a few rounds. Overall, it was a perfect way to kick off the beginning of the summer party season—and support an excellent cause. READ MORE

Hodinkee Pop-Up Shop Recap

When the associate editor of Hodinkee, Stephen Pulvirent began pulling out the watches for our recent event, I quickly turned off the new Daft Punk record, and as Grace put it, “Started drooling.” It was an easy thing to do. Rolex GMTs with rootbeer patina and faded pepsi bezels—no, I don’t know how the bezel colors of one of the world’s most heralded watchmakers became known by soda monikers. Nonetheless, all were quickly unclasped and tried on.

Okay, so maybe I tried them all on. Maybe it was the late-sixties, stainless-steel Datejust that made me feel like my grandfather for a second. I remember seeing his two-toned Datejust as kid and thinking is was the most sophisticated object known to man. I began to think about time and how it is a construct of man, just like the watches. I wondered about the previous owners—the men who slid each of these elegant timepieces onto their wrists before work, gently laid them on their dressers at night. READ MORE
