Haberdash EDC Plans a Thanksgiving Week Opening

October 28, 2011  By Will Mendelson

Fine pens, watches, boots and accessories will fill up the menswear shop’s new State Street outpost.

Haberdash EDC, the third installment in the growing Haberdash empire, is coming to State Street in late November. Established in Chicago in 2005, Haberdash curates a collection of menswear from brands such as Gitman Bros., Rag & Bone and Alden, all of which echo its chic, throwback style.

Set to open during the week of Thanksgiving, the brand’s new footwear and accessories concept shop, EDC, will also offer barber services and an expanded apothecary section. “It’s a candy store for men,” explain co-owners Jerry Kamhi and Adam Beltzman.

The name, which stands for Every Day Carry, comes from a military term referring to the things a man must carry with him daily to be prepared. In the Haberdash world, EDC refers to what a fashionable man keeps in his pocket.

So what are those necessary items? “We have the coolest watches, pens and paper goods, flashlights, bench-made knives… Items for urban survival,” says Kamhi.

Much like its predecessors, EDC will also stock soft blazers and coats from the Haberdash signature line, LBM 1911, as well as an extensive shoe selection, including fashionably rugged men’s boots.

“We’re getting guys coming from L.A. and New York to shop here,” notes Kamhi. “The typical Chicagoan thinks, ‘I gotta go to New York or LA,’ but in reality we’ve got New Yorkers shopping with us.” 611 N. State St.
