Craig Cooper at Pops for Champagne

When we were looking for men for our Spring lookbook, No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service, we were looking for a certain level of culinary prowess or behind-the-bar accumen. We only had to go a few steps to find our latest subject, Craig Cooper, the Partner/Beverage Director at the widely acclaimed Chicago staple, Pops for Champagne. “[Haberdash] is next door, five steps out to the right,” says Craig Cooper. “We’re in the same building, and everyone here is pretty close… we’re neighbors and friends.” READ MORE

Baldwin’s Henley in California Wash

Fact: You’re going to need a pair of jeans with a light wash for summer. Nothing looks better with tan feet, and those raw denims won’t breathe well when the mercury rises. When it comes to washed jeans, you’re either buying vintage, or a new pair that looks like this. Let me save you the trouble: vintage is smelly. Meet my favorite pair of light jeans in the world, the Baldwin Henley in their California wash. READ MORE

Chef Martial Noguier of Bistronomic

“All the time I want to change the menu, and I try to change the menu,” says Chef Martial Noguier, “But people get upset, because people come here often to have the same dish.” It’s true: the Gold Coast gem known as Bistronomic is that perfect blend of neighborhood familiarity and delicious quality that inspires diners to pick their favorites again and again, thanks to Noguier’s ability to meld classic French techniques and locally sourced ingredients. “They come for the mussels, they come for the tuna tartare, they come for the short ribs, they come for the whitefish, for the dessert, for the creme brûlée, the country pate, the chicken liver pate…”

No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service Style Guide

This idea was born out of our love of fashion and food; style and substance; all, easily and highly interchangeable. All of us at Haberdash resolutely believe that it’s a great time for menswear as well as a great time for food, especially in Chicago. Our astonishing group of highly regarded chefs, mixologists and restaurateurs share in our belief. So much, that they enthusiastically agreed to be photographed in their own culinary environment outfitted in Haberdash style, and even shared personal recipes. Yes, we truly appreciate what they do…they tantalize our sophisticated taste buds, quench our thirst for the exotic, and strive to meet our every whim.

Substance of Style: The Mackintosh

Read up on the Mackintosh (or “mac,” for short), and you’ll come across plenty of praise. It’s a coat with heritage. It’s traditional, even nostalgic, yet somehow ever-contemporary. The coat is marked by its simplicity and its timeless design. And while all of these words do pique our interest, there’s only one that comes to mind when we’re faced with sheets of icy rain on a cold day in Chicago: Waterproof. READ MORE

Introducing Apolis + Haberdash

“We grew up in Santa Barbara, California. Our parents knew we would never know how good we have it, so from an early age we traveled quite a bit,” says Shea Parton, the Brand Director and CEO at Apolis, the company he started with his brother in 2004. As young travelers, the two brothers had expected to find a whole globe of differences. In the end, it wasn’t the differences that drew them in, but the similarities they encountered. “All the people we came across had the same desire to laugh and learn and provide for their families.” READ MORE

Universal Works F/W 2012

“Under-design is my favorite thing — good design is important, but not over-design,” says David Keyte, of Universal Works. At the recent Jacket Required show, HBTV had a chance to catch up with the designer, owner, and founder of the British workwear-inspired label. Discussing about the label’s influences and the future of what the brand has in store for Fall/Winter 2012, Keyte previews the line that boasts clean tailoring and naturally rugged fabrics with timeless styles that Keyte thinks men “just want to wear.”
